How a one-year workmanship warranty works on glass doors

Two professionals shaking hands across a table.

A one-year workmanship warranty is standard on every glass door installation we deliver. It covers the things we did during install, separately from the manufacturer warranties on the product itself. Here is exactly how that works: what it covers, what it doesn’t, and how to claim if you need to.

What workmanship means in this context

Workmanship covers our installation work, as distinct from the product we installed. Two different things, two different warranty paths.

The product (the glass, the frame profiles, the hardware) is warranted by the manufacturer. Those terms pass through to you on installation and typically run 5 to 10 years on glass and longer on the frame, depending on the specific product.

The workmanship (how we mounted, sealed, and adjusted the door on site) is warranted by us, FrameCraft Glass, for one year from the date of installation completion.

What our workmanship warranty covers

The one-year covers issues that result from how the install was done, including:

Sealing failures. If the silicone or weatherstrip we applied during install starts leaking water or air within the first year, we come back and reseal at no charge.

Hardware alignment. If a lock, hinge, or handle mounted during our install loosens, misaligns, or operates incorrectly because of mounting, we adjust or remount at no charge.

Door operation issues. If the door doesn’t slide or swing smoothly because of install adjustments (track alignment, panel squareness, hinge tension), we re-adjust at no charge.

Frame mounting. If the frame becomes loose at the wall, the mounting hardware fails, or the install reveals movement within the first year, we re-secure at no charge.

In all of these cases, the workmanship warranty covers our return visit and the labour to correct the issue. Replacement parts are usually included if the original install was the cause; specialty parts may be billed at cost only if they need to be ordered specifically.

What our workmanship warranty does not cover

The exclusions are the equally important half. The warranty does not cover:

Damage from misuse. Slamming a sliding panel hard enough to bend the track, hanging weight from a door handle that shouldn’t be load-bearing, forcing operation against jammed debris.

Damage from external impact. Furniture banging into glass, kids breaking glass with a baseball, garden equipment hitting frames.

Weather events beyond normal range. Glass breakage or frame damage from major storms, hurricanes, or other extreme weather is covered by your insurance, not our workmanship warranty.

Normal wear. Weatherstripping wears over time; seals dry out; hardware finishes age. These are normal wear and outside the workmanship scope.

Product defects. If the glass or frame itself fails because of a manufacturing defect, that’s a product warranty claim through the manufacturer rather than a workmanship claim through us. We help you process the claim either way.

Issues from work done by others. If a different contractor disturbs the install (painters scraping the frame, plumbers cutting into the wall near the door), the resulting issues aren’t covered.

Modifications to the install. If anyone other than us alters the frame, hardware, or sealing after install, the warranty on the altered area is void.

How to file a workmanship claim

If something fails within the first year that you think is a workmanship issue:

  1. Call or message us at the contact details on your install paperwork or via the contact page.
  2. Describe what’s happening and when you noticed it. If possible, send a photo.
  3. We schedule a visit, usually within 5 to 7 business days for non-urgent issues, faster for active leaks or security issues.
  4. We assess the issue on site. If it’s a workmanship issue, we fix it at no charge during that visit or schedule a follow-up if parts are needed.
  5. If we determine it’s not a workmanship issue (e.g. damage from external impact), we explain what it actually is and quote any repair work separately for your decision.

The honest version: most one-year warranty calls we receive are sealing issues or hardware adjustments, both of which are quick visits and usually resolved on the spot.

What happens after the first year

After the one-year workmanship warranty period ends, the product warranties (manufacturer) remain in effect for whatever their term is (typically 5 to 10 years on glass, longer on frames). We still service installs after the workmanship warranty expires; the difference is that the service call and labour are billed normally rather than covered free of charge.

For ongoing care of your installation after the warranty period, the practical pattern is to call us when something needs attention and we’ll quote the work. Many of our customers have us back periodically over the years for adjustments, hardware replacements, or seal refreshes that fall outside the workmanship window.

Why one year and not longer

The honest answer: one year is the local market standard for workmanship warranty in Jamaica, and it covers the period during which install-related issues realistically manifest. Sealing failures, hardware alignment issues, mounting issues either appear quickly (within weeks) or they don’t appear at all because the install was sound.

A longer workmanship warranty (3 or 5 years) sounds attractive in marketing but typically comes with caveats that limit what’s actually claimable. The one-year warranty we provide is uncapped in dollar terms for genuine workmanship issues, which we think is more useful than a longer term with narrow definitions.

Frequently asked questions

What does the one-year workmanship warranty cover?

It covers issues that result from how we did the install: sealing failures, hardware alignment issues, frame mounting problems, door operation problems caused by install adjustments. If any of these appear within the first year, we come back and fix the issue at no charge to you. Replacement parts are usually included if the original install was the cause.

What is not covered by the workmanship warranty?

Damage from misuse or external impact, weather events beyond normal range, normal wear on seals and weatherstripping, product defects (those go through the manufacturer warranty instead), issues from work done by other contractors that disturb the install, and any modifications made to the install by someone other than us.

How do I file a workmanship warranty claim?

Call or message us with a description of the issue and a photo if possible. We schedule a visit within about 5 to 7 business days for non-urgent issues, faster for active leaks or security issues. If the visit confirms it’s a workmanship issue, we fix it at no charge. If it’s not, we explain what it actually is and quote any repair separately for your decision.

What happens after the one-year warranty ends?

The manufacturer product warranties stay in effect (typically 5 to 10 years on glass, longer on frames). We still service installs after the workmanship year ends; the difference is that service calls and labour are billed normally rather than covered free of charge. Many customers have us back periodically over the years for adjustments and refreshes outside the warranty window.

Is one year a long enough warranty?

For workmanship, yes, in our experience. Install-related issues either appear within the first few weeks to months or don’t appear at all. A longer workmanship warranty sounds attractive but usually comes with narrow exclusions that limit what’s actually claimable. Our one-year warranty is uncapped in dollar terms for genuine workmanship issues, which we think is more useful than a longer term with restrictions.

The next step

Every quote we issue includes the one-year workmanship warranty by default. The quote request form is the starting point if you want a quote with the full warranty terms in writing.

The glass doors service page covers what we install. The contact page is for warranty claims or questions about an existing install.

The warranty is part of the contract. It exists so that if something we did doesn’t hold, you have a clear path to getting it fixed without an argument.
